BCCI announces huge cash rewards for Indian cricket team after maiden Test series win in Australia
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced huge cash rewards for the Indian team players and the support staff after the side’s historic Test series triumph in Australia. India claimed the four-match Test series 2-1 after the final fourth Test ended in a draw at the MCG. Captain Kohli and his men ended a 72-year-long drought to register maiden Test win on Aussie soil.
BCCI announced cash rewards of Rs 15 lakhs per match for the players who were in the playing XI and Rs 7.5 lakhs per match for the players who were in the reserve squad. Meanwhile, a cash reward bonus of Rs 25 lakh per match was announced for the coaching staff. The bonus cash rewards announced are equivalent to the match-fee playable.
The players who featured in all four Test matches will benefit the most and are likely to pocket the highest amount. Captain Kohli along with the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant are some of the players who played all four Test matches and will be bagging the highest amount.
The non-coaching staff will also earn bonuses equivalent to their salary. The Indian team played their hearts out in Australia to floor the hosts in their own backyard and become the first ever team from Asian to achieve the remarkable feat. India won in Adelaide and Melbourne to take a 2-1 lead in the series before the final Test match ended in a draw as the 5th day’s play was washed away due to rain.
India played phenomenally well Down Under and had a number of players perform exceptionally well throughout the course of the four-match series. While Pujara was the star with the bat the likes of Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav stole the show with the ball. Pujara was awarded the Man of the Series award for his brilliant contributions with the bat as he amassed a staggering 521 runs in seven innings including three hundreds.
