IPL Points Table 2019: Standings and ranking as KXIP move to second while Delhi drop to fifth

Kings XI Punjab came back from the dead and pulled off a terrific comeback to defeat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs in Mohali on Sunday. Sam Curran picked up the first hat-trick of the season as Delhi capitulated at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. 7 wickets fell off the last 17 balls as Mohammed Shami scalped two, Curran picked four and Ashwin inflicted a stellar run-out dismissal to condemn Delhi to a 14- run loss.

Match No. 13: KXIP were the big movers in the IPL table as they reached second with 6 points in 4 matches. Chennai Super Kings are the current leaders in the table with six points from three games. They are followed by SRH who have four points after winning their last two matches. Delhi Capitals drop down to 5th with their second loss of the 2019 IPL. Meanwhile, RCB and RR stay at the bottom after suffering their third consecutive defeat.

Chennai Super Kings had defeated the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in their previous two fixtures to go top of the IPL charts. The MS Dhoni-led franchise had bagged a narrow win over Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals after hammering Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers in a low-scoring encounter.

Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab occupy the third and fourth place in the points table respectively, having won one game and lost one by the end of Match Number 6. The two teams, however, have shown a lot of promise in terms of their approach for the rest of the season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians were the four sides to have suffered defeats in their opening fixtures of the season 12. While three of these four sides have won the IPL previously, RCB’s title hopes suffered an early blow in terms of morale in their embarrassing defeat to CSK.

The Kohli-led franchise was restricted to a paltry total of 70 runs as the Super Kings’ spinner ran riot at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the opening fixture of the new season. Virat himself found it tough to hold on to his wicket while no other batsman, barring Parthiv Patel, managed to score in double digits. The team was bundled in 17.1 overs and the hosts rarely looked troubled while chasing the target.
