Is Dale Steyn joining RCB for IPL 2019? South African speedster’s Instagram story has got fans talking
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) season has endured its worst start in the history of the league. Virat Kohli’s men have lost all of the first six matches of season 12 so far. Be it the performance with the bat, ball or on the field, there hardly has been an area where the franchise isn’t required to improve. The bowling department, however, could receive a big boost if South African speedster Dale Steyn joins them for the ongoing season.
On Wednesday, Steyn shared a rather cryptic Instagram story on his official account where he shared a picture of his passport with the Indian visa on it. The veteran pacer hid a few details on the visa but from all that was visible, fans could make out that he is going to play for an IPL franchise. From certain parts of the hidden text, it looked like RCB is the team that has signed the 35-year-old.
Certain fan theories suggest that it could Nathan Coulter-Nile, in whose place Steyn has been called up by the Kohli-led side. It was reported that the Australian paceman could join Kohli’s men in Bengaluru by April 13 and be available for the match against Kings XI Punjab, but Steyn’s arrival could hint at a change of plans in NCN’s arrival.
The RCB pace bowling department has been extremely poor this season, with neither of Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Colin de Grandhomme, Navdeep Saini or Marcus Stoinis being able to put in valuable performances on a consistent basis. While an overseas speedster remains a must for Royal Challengers, Steyn’s arrival might bring a solution to some of the problems in the team.
Steyn, had in fact, played for RCB from 2008 to 2010 before joining the now defunct Deccan Chargers in 2011. In those three seasons, he had made a total of 28 appearances for the Bengaluru side, picking 27 wickets. He has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions in the IPL.
With former Proteas skipper AB de Villiers in the team, it wouldn’t be as hard for Steyn to get into the RCB mould as he joins.
