Ravi Shastri talks about Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni’s relationship in Indian team

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has finished and the focus shifts to international cricket with the ICC World Cup just coming up. Some of the players from the Indian cricket team are resting after a gruelling IPL season. However, one man will be chalking up strategies ahead of the showpiece event in England. Ravi Shastri will head into his first World Cup as a coach with a sense of confidence due to performance of the Indian players.

Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and to some extent Virat Kohli impressed in the season 12 of the IPL. But it was MS Dhoni who hogged all the limelight due to his stupendous display with the bat. He combined that well with his excellent wicket-keeping skills and astute leadership. Now MS will fly to England hoping to emulate his good form and help Virat in decision-making at the World Cup.

Shastri recently talked about the relationship that both Dhoni and Virat share in the dressing room. He commented that he never had a problem with the two due to the mutual respect they share with each other.

“I was never ever in doubt about the two of them having the kind of respect they have for each other, wanting to do a good job for each other because in the first phase of my job MS was the captain, the next half Virat was the captain. And I can see the commitment both had for each other when they played was tremendous,” Shastri said in an interview with Cricketnext.

Shastri went on to speak on how Dhoni is a role model for all cricketers and the dressing room learns by just observing how he carries himself on and off the field.

“Everyone knows and they know what he has achieved in the game, the stature that he has and then to see the poise and to see the humility, you know his sheer presence there, the composure he brings when he is out there batting or even during keeping is something you have just got to watch and learn and try and emulate it,” he further added.

The Indian team will play its first match at the World Cup on 5 June against South Africa at The Oval in London and Shastri will hope the Kohli-Dhoni combination shines at the biggest cricket tournament in the world.
