Bhopal Set to Go Green with Miyawaki Plantations

Officials surveying sites for the afforestation drive

A meeting chaired by Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh on Monday set the stage for the green transformation of the state capital, approving dense urban forests at five locations using the Miyawaki technique.

Officials were directed to identify plantation sites aligning with department-wise tree targets. The initiative aims to accelerate afforestation by planting native species densely, creating self-sustaining forests ten times faster than conventional methods.

Beyond urban projects, 50,000 saplings will be planted across 121 rural sites in Fanda and Berasia. Meanwhile, Bhopal Municipal Corporation will expand greenery at sites like Kajlikheda, Jamboree Maidan, and Bada Talab with over 1.5 lakh saplings.

The Ram Aastha Mission Foundation has earmarked five Miyawaki forest sites, including Bhopal Airport, Kerwa Dam, Kaliyasot, Berasia’s Barrikheda, and gaushalas in Sukhi Sewania, ensuring ecological balance and sustainability.

An Indian adaptation of the method will utilise city wet waste, lake water hyacinth, discarded temple flowers, gaushala manure, and decomposed animal remains for mulching, enriching the soil naturally.

Experts, including Tanmay Jain, retired IFS officer Ramesh Prasad Singh, retired Colonel Hemant Kakkar, and Dr Shraddha Agrawal, detailed the project plan. Key officials, including ADM Siddharth Jain and District Panchayat CEO Ila Tiwari, attended the meeting.
