Heatwave concern over MP police tests

BHOPAL: Concerns have resurfaced over the timing of police recruitment physical tests in Madhya Pradesh after authorities announced fresh schedules amid severe heatwave conditions.

Physical efficiency tests for recruitment to 89 posts of head constable and assistant sub-inspector will be held in Bhopal and Jabalpur from June 7 to June 9. Candidates will take part in an 800-metre run and document verification at designated centres in both cities.

The announcement follows the scheduling of physical tests and interviews for 500 posts of sub-inspector and subedar between June 5 and June 11.

Families of candidates have urged authorities to revise the timings, citing temperatures of 42 to 45 degrees Celsius across several districts and the health risks linked to outdoor running events during peak summer.

The concerns stem from the 2022 police recruitment drive, when two candidates died after participating in physical tests during extreme heat conditions in Jabalpur.

Following the incidents, the state government had postponed the tests and changed the timings. Candidates qualifying in the March online examination have been asked to report with admit cards and Aadhaar documents for verification.
