BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has added an electric vehicle to his official convoy, becoming the first state chief minister in Madhya Pradesh to include an EV in the fleet as part of efforts to promote clean energy and reduce fuel consumption.
The new Mahindra XEV 9e electric car joined the Chief Minister’s convoy on Wednesday. Yadav travelled in the vehicle from the Chief Minister’s residence to the State Hangar before departing for New Delhi.
The vehicle has been assigned the registration number MP 02 VB 2047. Officials said “VB” stands for “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), while “2047” reflects the national goal of transforming India into a developed nation by the 100th anniversary of its independence.
The registration number is intended to highlight environmental protection, the use of clean energy and the vision of a developed India, officials said.
The Mahindra XEV 9e is a premium electric car with a claimed range of more than 500 km on a single charge. Its inclusion in the Chief Minister’s convoy is being viewed as a step towards encouraging green mobility within government operations.
The Chief Minister had previously reduced the number of vehicles in his convoy from 13 to seven as part of fuel-saving measures. Several ministers and senior officials later adopted similar practices, including car-pooling and reducing the use of official vehicles.
Authorities said all security protocols for the electric vehicle have been completed. Drivers received specialised training and security agencies inspected the vehicle before it was cleared for use in the convoy.
The car is equipped with advanced safety and technology features, including a 360-degree camera, panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and fast-charging capability.
The vehicle is powered by a 79 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 286 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Mahindra says the car can travel more than 500 km on a single charge, while independent testing has reported a range of about 456 km. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.45 seconds.
Inside, the car features a 16-speaker premium audio system with Dolby Atmos, an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), ambient lighting with 16 million colour options, and dedicated climate-control settings such as Pet Mode and Camping Mode.
