MP Engineer Faces Lokayukta Raid

INDORE, Madhya Pradesh: — Lokayukta police in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday conducted raids at nine locations linked to a superintendent engineer of a state-run power distribution company and his relatives as part of an investigation into alleged disproportionate assets.

According to Lokayukta officials, the searches were carried out in Indore, Dhar and Morena at properties associated with Shivram Semil, a superintendent engineer with the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company, and members of his family.

Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Rajesh Sahay said the action followed a complaint alleging that Semil had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. After a preliminary inquiry, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

During the searches, investigators identified a three-storey house in Indore, valued at about Rs 1.2 crore, along with business premises, a plot of land, an electric car and a two-storey house in Morena.

Officials also said industrial units, land parcels and under-construction factories involved in transformer manufacturing and electrical equipment were found in the names of Semil’s son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in-law and other close relatives in the Pithampur and Ujjaini industrial areas of Dhar district. The investments are estimated to be worth several crores of rupees.

According to the Lokayukta, Semil earned approximately Rs 2 crore during his 33 years of government service, while the preliminary investigation found expenditure exceeding Rs 7.16 crore by him and his close relatives.

Officials said documents, investment records and other assets seized during the raids are being examined. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations have not yet been tested in court.
