BMC Orders Strict Tax Recovery Drive

Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Sanskriti Jain has directed officials to strengthen revenue collection, take action against tax defaulters and intensify enforcement against littering and illegal waste disposal across the city.

According to an official statement, Commissioner reviewed pending administrative matters and civic works during a meeting with senior officials. She instructed departments to ensure effective collection of property tax, water user charges, lease rent and other municipal dues. Officials were also asked to identify properties that have not yet been assessed for taxation, create new tax accounts and improve revenue generation.

The Commissioner directed officials to initiate action, including property attachment and sealing where permitted under applicable rules, against chronic defaulters who fail to clear outstanding dues.

The civic body was also instructed to impose spot fines on individuals and organisations found littering public places, dumping construction and demolition (C&D) waste or violating restrictions on polythene and single-use plastics. Officials were asked to ensure that charges for the removal of C&D waste are recovered as per the prescribed rates.

Jain further directed departments to complete road restoration works in accordance with prescribed standards, remove overgrown weeds along roadsides and coordinate with the Public Works Department and Metro Rail authorities for necessary road repairs.

She also instructed officials to complete preparations for the city-wide tree plantation drive scheduled for July 25, with plantation activities planned across parks, gardens and other available public spaces.
