Shashi Tharoor: I am not a travel agent

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor declined to comment on Rahul Gandhi’s reported trip to Vietnam, telling journalists, “I am not a travel agent.”

The remarks came amid a political row over the Leader of the Opposition’s reported foreign travel during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

On Tuesday, the BJP shared a video on X that it claimed showed Rahul Gandhi travelling to Vietnam. The party criticised the Congress leader for his reported absence while Opposition parties protested in Delhi.

The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of prioritising foreign travel over the Opposition’s campaign against the Election Commission over the SIR exercise.

When journalists asked about Rahul Gandhi’s whereabouts, Tharoor said he could not comment on his colleague’s travel plans. He added that everyone had their own responsibilities.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit defended Rahul Gandhi, arguing that his foreign travel should not become a political controversy. He questioned why the Congress leader’s movements had attracted criticism when politicians routinely travel abroad for personal and professional reasons.

The exchange has intensified the political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over the Opposition’s protests and Rahul Gandhi’s reported absence.

The BJP’s video and allegations, however, do not independently confirm the details or purpose of Rahul Gandhi’s reported trip.
