Indore: A fire broke out in a shop in the Pardeshipura area of Indore on Thursday evening, quickly spreading to nearby establishments before being brought under control by fire brigade teams.
The incident occurred in Nandanagar Lane No. 1, where a fire is suspected to have started in a board-making shop due to a short circuit. The flames rapidly spread because of flammable materials stored in the area.
Local residents initially attempted to douse the fire with water, but the blaze soon engulfed two adjacent shops, including a medical store and a chaat outlet, causing extensive damage.
Fire tenders were dispatched to the spot and eventually managed to control the situation, though by then the affected shops had been largely gutted.
Water tankers were also deployed to assist firefighting efforts. However, operations were briefly delayed after firefighters reportedly had to arrange a missing motor part required to operate equipment, by which time significant damage had already occurred.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
