Bhopal: Residents of the Bairagarh Road area were awakened by a series of explosions early Friday after a fire broke out at a fireworks shop in Halalpura, sending flames high into the air and prompting an extensive firefighting operation.
According to local reports, the blaze was reported at around 3.30 am at a fireworks shop located along the main road. Fireworks stored inside the premises continued to explode, making it difficult for firefighters to contain the flames.
An employee narrowly escaped injury after jumping to safety while emergency teams battled the fire. Witnesses said the employee avoided being caught in the blaze by moving away in time.
Several fire tenders from nearby fire stations were rushed to the spot after the incident was reported. Firefighters worked for more than three hours before bringing the blaze under control.
Authorities said the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
The shop, located close to a busy traffic corridor and near a petrol pump, reportedly contained a large stock of fireworks. The stock was completely destroyed in the fire.
Police restricted traffic on one side of the road as exploding fireworks continued to land in nearby areas. Power supply to the locality was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to facilitate firefighting operations.
No casualties were reported. The fire was fully brought under control by around 7 am.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a forested area of Govindpura, damaging vegetation and causing concern among nearby residents.
Emergency teams and water tankers were deployed after authorities were alerted. The fire was contained before it could spread further, preventing any major damage to surrounding residential areas. No injuries were reported in the incident.
