BHOPAL: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a city-wide enforcement drive on Monday to remove unauthorised roadside obstructions and structures from several areas, following complaints received through the CM Helpline, the civic call centre and routine inspections.
According to the BMC, civic teams halted an unauthorised house construction in Katara Hills and reopened a public pathway in Bhanpur Khejra village that had been blocked with bamboo poles. Officials also removed an unauthorised kitchen garden fence outside a house in Priyanka Nagar, cleared construction material from a service road in Amravihar Phase-3 and removed bricks placed on a public road in Good Shepherd Colony.
The civic body said teams also removed concrete slabs placed over drains outside four houses in Semra Ektapuri. In addition, vehicles reported to be causing traffic obstruction were relocated from several areas. A total of 25 cars and 50 motorcycles were cleared between Nehru Nagar and P&T Square, while 50 cars were relocated from the Maida Mill–Jeevan Motors area and another 10 from Bharti Niketan in Ashoka Garden.
Officials also cleared temporary roadside stalls selling clothes, fruits and vegetables, along with goods displayed outside shops. Other items removed during the drive included handcarts, kiosks, paan stalls, counters, display boards, tables and chairs that, according to the civic body, were occupying public spaces.
The BMC said it took into custody eight handcarts, one large iron counter and three display boards as part of the operation.
The drive was carried out under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain and covered several localities, including Katara Hills, Kolar, Danish Kunj, MP Nagar, Jahangirabad, Kamla Park, Ayodhya Bypass, Bhanpur, Ashoka Garden and Pushpa Nagar.
