NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has ended its 49-day protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and the government agreed to act on its remaining demands.
The decision followed three rounds of talks between CJP leaders and Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh.
CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das said the protest was withdrawn in good faith, with the expectation that the government would fulfil its promises within the agreed timeline.
The protest, which began on June 6, had three main demands: Pradhan’s resignation, withdrawal of FIRs and legal cases against protesters, and Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of people who died by suicide following the NEET paper leak.
Das said the government had agreed to withdraw FIRs filed against protesters in Delhi as well as BJP-ruled and BJP-allied states. He added that copies of the FIRs would be shared with the organisation within a few days, while a written assurance is expected by Tuesday.
The CJP also submitted a five-point charter seeking education and examination reforms. JP Nadda said the government would study the proposals and meet the CJP again in about four weeks for further discussions.
The government also agreed to provide compensation to families of NEET victims in line with existing rules and regulations. The CJP said it would closely monitor the implementation of all assurances before considering the matter fully resolved.
