BHOPAL: Farmers protesting over the procurement of the moong crop reportedly damaged several buses in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district on Wednesday, according to media reports.
The protesters are seeking 100% government procurement of the moong crop at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the withdrawal of the e-token system and improvements in fertiliser distribution.
Videos widely shared on social media appeared to show protesters standing on top of buses and inside the vehicles, with some individuals seemingly breaking window panes and damaging parts of the buses. The videos could not be independently verified, and authorities had not officially confirmed the reported damage at the time of publication.
According to media reports, the protest is part of an ongoing farmers’ movement led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. The agitation began in Narmadapuram and later spread to Bhopal, where thousands of farmers have gathered over the past two days.
Media reports said some protesters crossed police barricades before assembling on Hoshangabad Road after discussions with the Madhya Pradesh government reportedly failed to produce an agreement.
The demonstrations have disrupted traffic, prompted heavy police deployment and led to heightened security in parts of Bhopal and nearby areas, according to media reports.
Farmer leaders have said the protest will continue until the state government announces 100% procurement of the moong crop at MSP and addresses their other demands.
The Madhya Pradesh government had not issued a detailed statement on the reported bus damage or any related action at the time of publication.
