INDORE: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reached Indore on Saturday to participate in the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, where he is scheduled to interact with students and young people.
The programme is being held at the IDA Ground opposite Regional Park and is scheduled to begin at 5.30pm. Entry for participants began in the afternoon, with thousands of young people arriving at the venue. The discussion is expected to focus on education, employment, paper leaks and competitive examinations.
Rahul Gandhi travelled from the airport to a hotel amid tight security. During his movement, some Congress workers tried to approach his convoy, leading to a brief scuffle between police personnel and party workers.
Several Congress leaders were also unable to meet him at the airport because of security arrangements.
Traffic movement was affected in parts of Indore, with congestion reported from MR-10 Square towards Vijay Nagar. An ambulance was also caught in the traffic, although it was able to move once the congestion eased.
Organisers said the event has drawn a large number of young participants. A community kitchen prepared food for students attending the programme, with arrangements reportedly made for around 50,000 people.
