MP Emerges as India’s Food Basket: CM Dr Mohan Yadav

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a major contributor to India’s agricultural output, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said Monday, crediting the Agriculture Department and farmers for the state’s progress.

Speaking at a programme at Ravindra Bhavan to felicitate promoted Agriculture Department employees, Yadav said government schemes and policies should reach farmers at the grassroots rather than remain confined to official files.

The state government recently extended promotion benefits to 3,357 employees, including 1,725 from the Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development Department, according to government officials. Appointment letters were also handed to 44 people under compassionate appointment provisions.

CM said the government plans to conduct departmental promotion committee meetings annually and fill vacancies created by promotions. He said more than 1,500 posts in the Mandi Board are expected to be filled through recruitment in 2026.

The chief minister also said Madhya Pradesh procured about 10.4 million tonnes of wheat from nearly 1.4 million farmers this year, claiming the state ranked first nationally in wheat procurement.

Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana urged department officials to ensure welfare schemes reach farmers effectively.
