BCCI Names Pragyan Ojha Selection Committee Chief

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly named former India spinner Pragyan Ojha as chairman of the men’s selection committee, with former all-rounder Ramesh Powar joining the panel following Ajit Agarkar’s exit.

According to media reports, Ojha will lead the five-member committee, which also includes Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh and Ajay Ratra. The panel is responsible for selecting India’s men’s teams across formats.

Powar’s appointment reportedly followed a selection process conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. The committee interviewed candidates before recommending Powar for the role.

Ojha represented India in 24 Tests, 18 one-day internationals and six Twenty20 internationals. He took 113 wickets in Test cricket during his international career.

Powar played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India before moving into coaching. He has worked with the India women’s team and domestic sides, including Mumbai and Gujarat. He has also served as a bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

The BCCI also acknowledged Agarkar’s contribution as chairman, a position he took up in July 2023. During his tenure, Indian teams won several major international titles.

Men’s selection committee, as reported: Pragyan Ojha (chairman), Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar.
