Bhopal to Hold Flood Mock Drill on July 6 Ahead of Monsoon

Bhopal: The Bhopal district administration will conduct a flood management mock drill at Khanugaon on July 6 as part of its preparations for the monsoon season.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority chaired under the direction of Collector Priyank Mishra. Additional Collector Sumit Pandey reviewed the preparedness of various departments and directed officials to remain alert and follow disaster management protocols.

Officials said the mock drill is aimed at testing the response of different agencies and improving coordination during flood emergencies.

The administration also directed civic bodies to clean drainage systems and major drains to prevent waterlogging in urban and rural areas. Departments were asked to keep relief material, boats, life jackets and other emergency equipment ready in flood-prone locations. Control rooms will remain operational round the clock during the monsoon.

The administration has also ordered stronger safety measures at water bodies, including Kerwa Dam, Kaliyasot, Amargarh and Mahadev Pani. Officials have been asked to install warning boards, safety nets and other protective measures to reduce the risk of accidents during the rainy season.

All Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have been directed to form dedicated disaster management teams in their respective areas and ensure close coordination among departments for a quick emergency response.

The administration also instructed urban local bodies to identify dangerous buildings, secure abandoned mines and take preventive steps at accident-prone locations.

During the meeting, officials reviewed fire safety arrangements at coaching institutes. They were directed to carry out regular inspections and take strict action against institutions found violating fire safety norms.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Bhopal Municipal Corporation, the Health Department and other agencies involved in disaster management.
