BMC fines 27 shopkeepers Rs 10,500 for littering

Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has fined 27 shopkeepers a total of Rs 10,500 for littering in the Loha Bazaar area as part of its cleanliness enforcement drive.

The action followed an inspection by Municipal Commissioner Ram Prakash Ahirwar on Saturday morning, during which he directed officials to take strict action against those spreading waste in public areas.

Acting on his instructions, teams from the civic body’s health department in Zones 2 and 4 carried out the enforcement drive and imposed spot fines on the shopkeepers found littering.

During the inspection, the commissioner reportedly noticed several locations where shopkeepers had spread waste. He instructed the concerned officials to ensure stricter enforcement of cleanliness rules and penalise those responsible.

Alongside the fines, municipal officials advised shopkeepers to keep dustbins at their establishments and dispose of waste properly. They were also instructed to hand over collected rubbish to municipal waste collection vehicles rather than leaving it in public spaces.

The civic body said the action was aimed at improving sanitation and maintaining cleanliness in busy commercial areas.

The corporation has urged traders to follow proper waste disposal practices and cooperate with municipal teams to keep market areas clean. The drive also serves as a reminder that littering can invite spot fines under the civic body’s enforcement measures.
