Police in Madhya Pradesh have detained a teenager following the alleged assault of a 16-year-old girl with an intellectual disability in the capital city.
The incident took place on 1 July in the Katara Hills area but came to light days later when the victim’s brother received a video of the attack on his mobile phone. Police said the recording had also been shared with others.
The girl’s family lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday night. Officers have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to investigators, two local youths had previously pressured the girl to meet them, but she had refused. On 1 July, they allegedly lured her to a quiet area behind a local school, carried out the assault, and filmed it. Due to her disability, the victim could not immediately tell her family what had happened.
One juvenile suspect is currently in custody and is being questioned by detectives. Police are treating the matter with high priority and have launched a search to find a second suspect who fled the scene. The investigation continues.
