Sensex jumps 2,009 points, Nifty crosses 24,500

Indian stock markets recorded strong gains on Thursday, with the Sensex surging more than 2,000 points and the Nifty closing above 24,500 amid widespread buying across major sectors.

The BSE Sensex closed at 79,310.01, gaining 2,008.61 points or 2.60%. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 576 points or 2.40% to settle at 24,536.60.

Bajaj Finance led the Sensex gainers, rising 7.77%, followed by IndiGo, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra. Banking, automobile and financial stocks were among the strongest performers. However, NTPC declined 1.65%, emerging as the biggest Sensex loser.

Sectoral indices also recorded broad gains. Financial services stocks rose 4.24%, while the automobile index gained 4.14%. Realty and banking shares also witnessed strong buying interest.

According to market reports, improved global sentiment, easing crude oil prices and renewed foreign investor buying supported the rally. Foreign institutional investors reportedly purchased equities worth Rs 7,284.03 crore on 4 November.

Market experts said improving corporate earnings and foreign fund inflows had contributed to positive sentiment. However, global economic developments, crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties could influence market movements in the coming sessions.
