Sonam granted bail in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

INDORE: Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused in the murder case of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, has been granted bail by a court in Shillong, Meghalaya, where she has been lodged in jail.

According to media reports, the Shillong court granted her bail after the fourth hearing in the case. Shillong Superintendent of Police Vivek said the court had exercised its authority in granting bail.

Speaking to the media, Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said he had spoken to their lawyer in Shillong, who confirmed that Sonam had secured bail and could be released from jail soon. A local police officer also reportedly confirmed the development.

Vipin said the bail was granted after Sonam’s lawyer argued that when she was taken into custody from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, police had not clearly informed her of the grounds for her detention. This formed the basis of the defence argument before the court.

He said the family would move the High Court seeking cancellation of her bail. He also said a bail plea had been filed for another accused, Raj Kushwaha.

Out of the five people arrested in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, four have now secured bail, including Sonam, Lokendra Singh Tomar, Balbir Ahirwar.
