MUMBAI: Diljit Dosanjh skipped the trailer launch of his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga in Mumbai on Tuesday as he was performing a scheduled concert in Texas. He joined the event through a recorded video message.
In the video, Dosanjh said he could not attend due to professional commitments abroad. “I am in Texas, so I could not come. Tonight’s show is sold out,” he said. He added, “Main bhi vaapas aaunga.”
Director Imtiaz Ali unveiled the trailer in Mumbai in Dosanjh’s absence. The film also features Sharvari Wagh, Vedang Raina and Naseeruddin Shah.
Set against the backdrop of the Partition of India, the story explores separation, memory and longing. It follows a cross-generational love story, with Vedang Raina playing the younger version of Naseeruddin Shah’s character.
In the trailer, Dosanjh delivers a dialogue: “Is it possible to love a girl whom you haven’t even seen for 78 years?”
Music composer A.R. Rahman has scored the film, while Irshad Kamil has written the lyrics. The makers continue their long-standing collaboration, blending Punjabi folk elements with a period sound.
Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12.
Separately, reports claim Dosanjh has been travelling on a US passport since 2022 and has been entering India on an e-visa. He has not issued any public statement on the matter.
