Bhopal Completes House Listing of 4.2 Lakh Properties in Census 2027 Drive, Civic Worker Suspended

Bhopal, May 14: The first phase of Census 2027 is progressing quickly in Bhopal, with officials completing the listing of more than 4.2 lakh houses within the Municipal Corporation area. Authorities have also completed work in 250 census blocks, officials said on Thursday.

The house-listing exercise forms an important part of India’s Census 2027 programme. Enumerators and supervisors are carrying out surveys across assigned census blocks to document residential properties and related details.

Officials said survey teams are working with dedication and completing tasks at a steady pace in different parts of the city. By Thursday evening, teams had surveyed and listed over 4.2 lakh houses under the first phase of the census operation.

Municipal Commissioner and Chief Census Officer Sanskriti Jain has directed officials to speed up the process and resolve difficulties faced by field staff during the survey. The civic administration is also monitoring the work regularly to ensure timely completion of the national exercise.

The Municipal Corporation has encouraged enumerators and supervisors involved in the survey work. Officials said the administration is recognising employees who are carrying out their responsibilities with commitment and efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Corporation has taken disciplinary action against an employee for alleged negligence during census duty.

The General Administration Department suspended Akash Prajapati with immediate effect after he allegedly failed to report for assigned census work despite repeated instructions.

According to officials, Prajapati, posted in Ward No. 32 under Zone 21, had been appointed as an enumerator for house-listing work in Zone 14. The administration said he did not reach his duty location even after receiving instructions over the phone. Officials added that his absence affected work linked to the Census 2027 exercise.

The Corporation termed the matter a case of serious negligence and misconduct and issued suspension orders with immediate effect.
