Bhopal Launches Citywide Anti-Encroachment Operation
Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) intensified its anti-encroachment campaign on Monday by removing illegal roadside structures and temporary occupations from the Boat Club area and several other locations across the city. The operation formed part of the corporation’s ongoing effort to keep public roads, footpaths and open spaces free from encroachments while responding to complaints received through the CM Helpline, the civic call centre and other public grievance platforms.
Bhopal Removes Illegal Structures Across Key Areas
Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, anti-encroachment teams visited key roads, markets and residential areas to remove illegal structures and recover public land. During the drive, officials cleared temporary shops, sheds, platforms, roadside stalls and other unauthorised structures that had occupied public spaces.
Bhopal Seizes Goods from Boat Club Encroachments
The Boat Club area remained one of the main focus points of the operation. Civic teams removed illegal roadside setups and seized several items used for unauthorised business activities, including handcarts, wooden boxes, furnaces, tables, chairs, stools, drums, gas cylinders and cooking utensils.
Bhopal Expands Drive to Markets and Residential Areas
The drive also covered Nehru Nagar Square, Mata Mandir, Bhadbhada, Suraj Nagar, MANIT Square, Chuna Bhatti Square, 1100 Quarters, Arera Colony, Banskhedi, Link Road Nos. 1, 2 and 3, Retghat, Ravindra Bhavan, Polytechnic, Bharat Mata Square, MP Nagar Zone-1, Raisen Road, Ashoka Garden, Vardhman Park, Prabhat Square, Railway Station platforms 1 and 6, Sonia Gandhi Pulia, Nizamuddin Road, Narela Junction, Ayodhya Bypass, Bhanpur, Hamidia Road, Lalghati, Airport Road, Gandhi Nagar and Bairagarh, among several other areas.
Bhopal Demolishes Illegal Platforms and Drain Covers
Officials removed five temporary roadside structures between Polytechnic and Bharat Mata Square. Two illegal platforms built outside houses in Fatehgarh were demolished, while iron grills, nets, pipes and concrete slabs covering public drains were removed from E-7 Arera Colony, Narela Junction and Kolukhedi. A temporary shed built without permission in Ashoka Garden’s Ektapuri area was also removed during the operation.
Bhopal Removes Vehicles Blocking Public Roads
As part of efforts to improve traffic movement, the corporation removed vehicles parked in a way that blocked public roads. Five four-wheelers were cleared from Bhanpur, seven from the Vardhman Park area in Ashoka Garden and one from Sonia Gandhi Pulia.
Bhopal Clears Footpaths of Street Encroachments
Teams also acted against roadside vendors and shops that had extended their business onto footpaths and public land. Vegetable, fruit and clothing stalls, paan kiosks, gumtis, display counters, signboards, tables, chairs and other materials placed outside shops were removed from different parts of the city to restore pedestrian movement.
Bhopal Seizes Furniture and Temporary Business Setups
During the operation, civic officials seized one handcart, one large storage box, 25 chairs, 36 stools, two furnaces, two tables, one drum and several other materials found occupying public spaces without permission. The corporation said such enforcement will continue as part of its regular civic operations.
Bhopal Assists Administration in Sealing Eleven Houses
In a separate action, the municipal corporation assisted the district administration in sealing 11 houses in the 1100 Quarters area as part of an official enforcement exercise. Civic teams worked alongside district officials to complete the action without disruption.
Bhopal Continues Crackdown on Illegal Encroachments
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation said anti-encroachment drives will continue across the city to improve traffic flow, protect public land and maintain civic infrastructure. Residents have been encouraged to report illegal encroachments through the CM Helpline, the civic call centre and other official complaint platforms so that timely action can be taken.
