The main opposition party secured its second consecutive victory in the Datia assembly constituency, reinforcing its local stronghold. Election officials counted the votes under heavy security at the Datia Polytechnic College. The counting process saw dynamic shifts across 15 complete rounds before Congress closed the final official tally decisively in its favor.

Final Victory Margin: Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh polled strong support across rural and urban pockets, ultimately defeating BJP rival Ashutosh Tiwari by a solid margin of 6,056 votes.
Loss at Former Minister’s Booth: In a major setback for the ruling party, former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra’s primary polling booth (Booth No. 121) recorded a victory for Congress. At this specific booth, Congress secured 291 votes, while the BJP candidate managed 264 votes.
Round-Wise Trajectory: BJP opened with an initial lead in the first round, but the Congress candidate quickly gained momentum. By the end of the ninth round of counting, Congress built a massive lead of over 9,500 votes. Although BJP narrowed the gap during the final three rounds, Congress maintained its comfortable lead until the end.
Political Reactions and Statewide Celebrations
Following the formal declaration of the results, BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari addressed supporters and media personnel. He acknowledged the outcome and stated that the party leadership would complete a thorough internal review of the election campaign.

Tiwari pointed toward possible internal opposition within local organizational units, while reiterating his personal commitment to continue working for the residents of Datia.
In contrast, victorious Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh framed the result as a direct public verdict against current state administration policies. He claimed the outcome marks a significant political turning point in regional dynamics.

Background of the Datia Assembly Seat
The Datia assembly seat became vacant after former Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti faced disqualification following a two-year sentence in a cooperative bank case. In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, Bharti had won the seat after defeating BJP leader Dr. Narottam Mishra by 7,742 votes.
Across Madhya Pradesh, Congress supporters and organizational workers launched widespread celebrations.
Party members gathered outside the state headquarters in Bhopal as well as regional offices in Rajgarh, Itarsi, and Khandwa. Representatives from the Congress and Samajwadi Party alliance greeted each other, distributed sweets, and raised slogans celebrating their joint electoral success.
