Job Offer Turns Into Jewellery Scam

INDORE: A woman in Indore was allegedly cheated of her silver anklets by a conman who lured her with the promise of work and then fled with the jewellery, police said.

According to police, the 48-year-old woman, a daily wage labourer, was waiting near a city junction on Friday in search of work when a man approached her on a motorcycle. He allegedly offered her a cooking job at a temple construction site and promised a wage of Rs 600.

The woman agreed to accompany him. Instead of taking her directly to the site, the suspect first stopped in a market area before telling her that wearing jewellery while working at the temple was not allowed. He persuaded her to remove her silver anklets and place them in a cloth bundle.

The man later took her to a village on the outskirts of the city and convinced her to hand over the bundle, claiming he would keep it safe. He then told the woman he was going to the temple and disappeared with the jewellery.

After waiting for a long time, the woman realised she had been deceived and informed her family, who later approached the police.

A case has been registered and officers are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify and trace the suspect.
