Nursing students under the MP Nursing Students Struggle Committee submit a memorandum to the Governor, warning of a bigger protest if their demands are not met.
Nursing students from across Madhya Pradesh have appealed to the state Governor, asking him to step in and clear long-pending issues around exams and scholarships.
Under the banner of the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Students Struggle Committee, the students handed over a memorandum in Bhopal. They said repeated delays in nursing exams have disrupted the academic year and left many students under stress.
The memorandum also raised the matter of students studying in colleges declared “unsuitable”. These students have not received their scholarships yet. Their transfer to recognised, or “suitable”, colleges is also stuck, leaving their future uncertain.
The students have made four clear demands. First, nursing exams should be held on time and without delay. Second, pending scholarship money should be released at once. Third, students in unsuitable colleges should be moved to suitable ones without any loss to their studies. Fourth, the department concerned should issue clear instructions to resolve these problems quickly.
They warned that if the government does not act soon, they will be forced to intensify their protest.
Speaking to VisionMP, Manoj Rajak, state coordinator of the Movement Against Unemployment, said the protest is not limited to Bhopal.
“We will continue to protest against this injustice. We have carried out protests in more than 40 districts, including Bhopal, Guna, Jabalpur and Gwalior, and we are now planning to organise one in poll-bound Datia. Many of our members are already at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. It has been more than 12 days since they joined the protest, and we stand with the students against this injustice.”
Rajak said nursing students are among the worst hit. A four-year degree is now taking six to seven years to complete because of delayed exams, he said. He added that a court order against unsuitable colleges had led several institutions to shift their students elsewhere. But many students have been unable to secure a new college, and their current college is not helping them either. Scholarships for many remain on hold.
Students from Indore, Jabalpur and Rewa, among other districts, have also joined the protest. Rajak said the movement will continue “until justice is served”.
The Bhopal protest comes amid a wider stir at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Protesters there are opposing what they call a police crackdown on a peaceful demonstration, along with rising unemployment, paper leaks, and irregularities in the exam system. They are also protesting against the nursing college scam in Madhya Pradesh, the closure of 94,000 government schools, and demanding recruitment against vacant posts across state departments. A central demand of the movement remains the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
