Online Scam Costs Gwalior Family Rs 1.27 Lakh

GWALIOR: A mother and daughter in Gwalior were allegedly duped of Rs 1.27 lakh after fraudsters lured them with promises of commissions and additional income through an online task-based scheme.

According to a complaint lodged with Maharajpura police, the victims were contacted by an unidentified person after downloading an online shopping application on 18 and 19 June. The suspect allegedly offered attractive commissions in return for completing online tasks.

To gain their trust, the fraudster initially assigned simple tasks and offered assurances of quick returns. The victims were subsequently persuaded to transfer money to multiple bank accounts on the promise of higher earnings and commissions.

Police said the mother and daughter transferred a total of Rs 1.27 lakh from their State Bank of India accounts through several transactions to bank accounts specified by the suspect. When neither the promised commission nor the invested amount was returned, they realised they had been cheated.

The victims later approached the police and sought action against those responsible. Authorities have begun an investigation and are examining the case as a suspected cyber fraud.
