Raid Reveals Assets Beyond Known Income

INDORE: Assets worth about Rs 9.5 crore were uncovered during Lokayukta raids conducted at three locations in Indore on Wednesday in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

Preliminary investigations found that the assets were nearly 241% higher than the income legally earned during nearly three decades of government service.

The action followed a corruption complaint that was found to have substance during a preliminary inquiry. A case was subsequently registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and search warrants were obtained from a special court.

Search teams began simultaneous raids at around 6 a.m. Officials said the operation was conducted with complete secrecy.

Investigators were surprised by the scale of commercial establishments linked to the case, including a two-storey fitness centre equipped with modern facilities and a large departmental store operating on a commercial scale.

Assets identified so far include multiple plots near the Pithampur industrial area, a commercial plot in Indore and other land holdings. A bank locker has also been traced and will be examined.

Authorities estimated total salary earnings during nearly 30 years of service at around Rs 2.5 crore, compared with assets worth approximately Rs 9.5 crore discovered during the investigation.

The properties include a large commercial-residential building in Indore, additional residential plots and several land parcels in rural areas adjoining Pithampur. The investigation is ongoing.
