Himachal Landslide Gujarat Floods dominated the country’s weather situation on Friday after a landslide in Himachal Pradesh killed 13 people, while heavy rain caused flooding in Gujarat and parts of Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued heavy rain alerts for several states over the next two days.
Himachal Landslide Gujarat Floods Trigger Rescue Operations
The deadliest incident was reported from Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh, where a landslide struck a Tata Sumo taxi near Kadu Nala on the Udaipur-Killar road. The vehicle was carrying 15 people, and 13 occupants died after rocks fell on the vehicle. Rescue teams were deployed to the area, while local authorities continued relief operations.

The incident came as continuous rainfall increased the risk of landslides in several hill districts of Himachal Pradesh.
Gujarat Floods Disrupt Daily Life
Heavy rainfall continued to affect several districts in Gujarat. In Valsad district’s Umargam taluka, around 43 inches of rain was recorded within 16 hours, leading to severe flooding in low-lying areas.
In Navsari, rescue teams used helicopters to airlift stranded residents from flooded villages. Waterlogging was reported from parts of Ahmedabad and Surat, while markets in the Vav-Tharad region were inundated.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies continued rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas.
Rivers in Uttar Pradesh Flow Above Danger Levels
In Uttar Pradesh, continuous rainfall over the past 10 days has pushed several rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, close to or above danger levels.
Floodwater entered villages in districts such as Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri, forcing many residents to use boats for daily travel. Several roads remained submerged, affecting transport and access to essential services.
Heavy Rain Alert for Several States
The IMD has issued heavy rainfall alerts for parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand and several northeastern states over the next 48 hours.
In Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain warnings have been issued for Ratlam, Mandsaur, Sheopur, Alirajpur and Panna, while light to moderate rainfall is expected in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain and Jabalpur.
Rajasthan has issued a red alert for Banswara and Dungarpur, with orange and yellow alerts in several other districts.
Meanwhile, flood conditions were also reported from parts of Maharashtra, where rising water levels in the Godavari River affected villages in Nashik district. In Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, lightning struck a house, causing structural damage.
Authorities have urged people living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
The IMD has advised residents in affected states to remain alert as the active monsoon system is expected to continue bringing heavy rain to several parts of the country over the next two days.
