A 26-year-old woman was killed after being hit by an Aston Martin near Inorbit Mall in Hyderabad on Aug. 16, according to media reports. Police have identified 21-year-old Lingamaneni Sanjush, son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP Lingamaneni Ramesh, as the accused.
A video showing the aftermath of the crash has surfaced, capturing chaotic scenes at the spot. The footage shows the injured woman lying on the road as a colleague cries for help. Bystanders can also be seen confronting the driver and preventing him from leaving the scene.
The video further shows the driver approaching the injured woman before bystanders placed her in the Aston Martin and took her to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The victim, identified as Bharati Mukhi, was reportedly from Odisha and worked as a sales executive at the Lifestyle store inside Inorbit Mall. According to the police complaint, she and her colleague had gone towards the ITC Kohenur area to collect lunch and were returning to the mall when the accident occurred.
Police said the Aston Martin allegedly struck Bharati while she was crossing the road in front of the mall. She suffered severe head injuries and heavy bleeding.
Based on a complaint filed by the Lifestyle store manager, Madhapur Police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by a rash or negligent act. Police have seized the vehicle, bearing registration number TG-09-G-0666, as part of the investigation.
According to police, alcohol and drug tests on Sanjush were negative. His blood sample has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination.
Police said Sanjush was not arrested because the offence registered under Section 106(1) carries a punishment of less than five years. Authorities said a notice was issued to him in accordance with the Supreme Court’s Arnesh Kumar judgment and Section 35(1).
Bharati’s aunt said the woman was the sole breadwinner of her family and appealed to the government for financial assistance.
