FWICE bans Ranveer Singh after ‘Don 3’ dispute escalates with Farhan Akhtar

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh ban FWICE has been announced by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees after a dispute related to the film Don 3 escalated with filmmaker Farhan Akhtar. The decision was taken following allegations of project disruption and financial losses linked to the film’s pre-production.

The federation issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, urging the Indian film industry not to work with him until the matter is resolved.

Ranveer Singh ban FWICE after Don 3 dispute

The controversy reportedly began after Ranveer Singh exited the film Don 3, which had been announced in 2023 with him in the lead role. The film is being produced under Excel Entertainment, founded by Farhan Akhtar.

According to reports, Farhan Akhtar claimed that significant work had already begun on pre-production before the actor left the project. He alleged that the exit caused financial losses of around Rs 45 crore.

FWICE said it had issued multiple notices to Ranveer Singh asking him to present his side of the story. The notices were reportedly sent on 22 April, 30 April and 13 May 2026.

Industry directive and response

The federation stated that Ranveer Singh did not cooperate with its inquiry process. However, the actor’s side reportedly responded that FWICE was not the appropriate forum for resolving contractual disputes and suggested legal channels instead.

Industry sources said FWICE has directed production houses and workers’ associations to avoid collaboration with the actor until further notice.

Background of Don 3 dispute

The film Don 3 was announced as the third instalment in the iconic franchise following the original 1978 film starring Amitabh Bachchan and the 2006 remake led by Shah Rukh Khan.

The project was initially scheduled to feature Kiara Advani, who later opted out due to maternity-related reasons. Reports also suggested changes in casting discussions before production delays.

Farhan Akhtar had reportedly postponed another project, Jee Le Zaraa, to focus on Don 3. However, delays pushed the timeline further, during which Ranveer Singh moved on to other commitments.

Reports also claimed disagreements over script changes and creative direction, including demands for more intense and violent scenes, which allegedly led to friction between the actor and makers.

A compensation claim of around Rs 45 crore was later raised by the producers, citing delays and pre-production costs. Attempts at mediation reportedly failed despite intervention efforts by industry stakeholders.
