Former India captain Kapil Dev has praised young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi but said the teenager must be given time to develop without too much pressure, according to media reports.
Kapil Dev said the 15-year-old has exceptional natural talent and can be compared, in terms of ability, with top Indian players such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. However, he stressed that it is too early to place high expectations on him.
He added that young players often receive huge attention after a few strong performances, but they need time, experience and proper guidance to grow at the international level. He warned that excessive hype at an early age can affect a player’s development.
Kapil Dev also said Sooryavanshi has shown good form in T20 cricket, but still needs to prove himself in longer formats such as Test cricket. He explained that red-ball cricket demands patience, discipline and stronger technique.
He said success in T20 cricket alone cannot define a complete career, and consistency across all formats is the real measure of a top player.
Sooryavanshi is currently part of India’s squad on the UK tour but is yet to make his international debut. He was not included in the playing XI in recent T20 matches against Ireland and England.
