MI become first team to cross 50,000 T-20 runs

Mumbai Indians have become the first side in Twenty20 history to surpass 50,000 runs, reaching 50,003 in 308 matches during the 2026 season.

The five-time Indian Premier League champions lead the all-time tally, ahead of Somerset County Cricket Club (48,244), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (47,304) and Chennai Super Kings (46,438). India national cricket team are the only international side in the top five with 45,241 runs.

Mumbai have featured in every IPL season since 2008 and also competed in the now-defunct Champions League Twenty20, winning it twice alongside their five IPL titles.

The franchise began under Sachin Tendulkar, who captained the side to their first final in 2010. Leadership later passed through Harbhajan Singh and Ricky Ponting before Rohit Sharma took charge in 2013.

Under Rohit, Mumbai won titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, including consecutive triumphs in 2019 and 2020.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Hardik Pandya was appointed captain following a trade. Results since have been inconsistent, with Mumbai finishing bottom in 2024 and exiting the 2025 season after losing to Punjab Kings in the second qualifier.

In 2026, the side struggled again, winning two of nine matches to sit ninth in the standings. Senior players, including Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav, remain in the squad, although Rohit has missed several matches due to a hamstring injury.
