Washington: US President Donald Trump’s new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, made a verbal slip during her first press briefing on Tuesday, briefly referring to the president as her husband while discussing the challenges of balancing work and family life.
According to media reports, the remark came after a journalist asked how she planned to manage the demanding role while raising her four children.
“My President — excuse me, my husband — is out here,” Zacharia said, correcting herself immediately.
The briefing lasted about 14 minutes, according to the White House’s official video record. Zacharia read prepared remarks outlining the administration’s priorities before taking a few questions from reporters. She then ended the session.
Trump later praised her performance, telling reporters: “I thought she did excellent. She did very good.”
Zacharia was appointed to the position on Friday, succeeding Karoline Leavitt, who left the role in August, according to the Associated Press.
Before her appointment, Zacharia worked as a communications adviser for Trump Media and Technology Group, which owns the Truth Social platform. She has also worked as a conservative political commentator and previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
Her first briefing drew media attention over the verbal slip and the short question-and-answer session. The incident came as she began her role as the administration’s chief spokesperson.
The White House has published the full briefing video on its official website.
