GWALIOR: A retired military personnel allegedly opened fire along with his associates on a father-in-law and son-in-law in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district on Wednesday, killing one of them and critically injuring the other, police said.
The shooting took place on Patari Road in the Maharajpura area at around 10:30 a.m. and was linked to a long-running dispute over dumping sand on government land, according to investigators.
Police said the two victims were passing through the area when motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly surrounded them and opened indiscriminate fire using pistols and country-made weapons.
Both men sustained multiple gunshot injuries and collapsed on the road, while the attackers fled the scene.
The injured were rushed to the trauma centre at Jayarogya Hospital, where one of them died due to excessive blood loss. The other remains in critical condition and is on ventilator support, doctors said.
Authorities later detained the main accused and launched raids to trace the remaining suspects.
Police have registered a case of murder and attempted murder. Several teams have been formed to investigate the shooting and search possible hideouts in nearby districts.
Security was tightened in the area following tension among local residents after the incident. Additional police personnel and quick response teams were deployed to prevent any disturbance to public order.
