220-kg goat draws attention in Indore ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

INDORE: A 220-kg goat named “Sultan”, set to be sacrificed during Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in Madhya Pradesh, has drawn attention in Indore for its size, diet and reported market value.

The owner, a resident of Gulzar Colony in Indore, said he brought the goat from Punjab nearly a year ago after a two-day, 1,000-km journey. Sultan, a spotted goat of the Punjabi Beetal breed, stands about five feet tall from the ground to its neck.

According to the owner, the animal consumes around two litres of milk, 250 grams of dry fruits and nearly 10 kg of leaves every day. A cooler has also been installed to protect it from the summer heat, while only chilled water is provided for drinking.

The owner said Sultan was purchased for Rs 120,000 and has since attracted several buyers ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. He claimed one buyer offered as much as Rs 800,000 for the goat, but the offer was declined.

Residents and visitors from different parts of Indore have been visiting Gulzar Colony to see the animal. A visitor from Rau said Sultan had become popular because of its size and the care being given to it.

Eid-ul-Adha will be observed across India, including Madhya Pradesh, on May 28.
