School faces conversion allegations; police launch probe

JABALPUR: Police have launched an inquiry after Hindu organisations alleged that religious conversion activities were being carried out at a private school in Jabalpur’s Suhagi area, according to media reports.

The controversy surfaced on Sunday when members of Hindu organisations reached the campus and staged a protest over a prayer gathering being held at a church located within the premises, media reports said.

According to the reports, the protesters claimed that several members of the Hindu community were present at the gathering and alleged that economically vulnerable people were being encouraged to embrace Christianity through religious meetings and social assistance programmes.

The organisations further alleged that such activities had been taking place for some time and submitted a complaint seeking a detailed investigation. Videos purportedly showing people attending the prayer meeting were also handed over to police, according to media reports.

Police said a complaint had been received and an inquiry was underway. Officials said the allegations would be verified and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

No evidence of forced or illegal religious conversion has been established so far, and the allegations remain under investigation.
