SEONI: Congress MLA Yogendra Singh Baba escaped safely after the Scorpio SUV he was travelling in caught fire following a road accident on National Highway 34 in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district on Thursday morning.
The accident took place near Banjari village at around 7 am. The vehicle reportedly went out of control while trying to avoid a cow crossing the road and crashed into the boundary wall of a school.
Soon after the collision, smoke began rising from the front part of the SUV. Within minutes, the vehicle caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames.
Baba, who represents the Lakhnadon Assembly constituency, was travelling from Jabalpur to Ghurwada village. His gunman, Raju Dhurve, and driver, Anu, were also in the vehicle.
All three occupants quickly got out of the SUV before the fire spread. They suffered minor injuries and did not require major medical treatment.
“The MLA, driver and gunman came out of the vehicle in time. No serious injuries were reported,” a local police official said.
After receiving information about the incident, Dhooma police reached the spot and inspected the accident site. Local residents also helped in efforts to control the fire.
Police later removed the damaged vehicle from the road and restored traffic movement on the highway.
Officials said the exact circumstances of the accident are being examined.
