Malwa, Somnath Trains Get New Stop

Bhopal:Train passengers in Bhopal will see a major change from July 28, as the Malwa Express and Somnath–Jabalpur Express will stop at Nishatpura railway station instead of Bhopal Junction, according to media reports.

The change coincides with the inauguration of the newly developed Nishatpura railway station, after which regular passenger services will begin.

According to media reports, the station was completed in June 2023, but passenger operations did not start despite the availability of basic infrastructure. It has now been cleared for regular operations.

In the initial phase, only the Malwa Express and Somnath–Jabalpur Express will halt at Nishatpura, and their stoppage at Bhopal Junction will be discontinued. Passengers who have already booked tickets from Bhopal Junction have been advised to board these trains from Nishatpura railway station.

The change has raised concerns among some passengers, particularly those travelling to Vaishno Devi and Amarnath, as the Malwa Express is a popular train for these routes. Commuters say reaching Nishatpura could take more time and cost more because of traffic congestion on approach roads, according to media reports.

Railway officials said the new station is expected to reduce congestion at Bhopal Junction, which handles around 230 train movements and approximately 45,000 passengers daily. The shift is also expected to improve operational efficiency by reducing delays caused by engine changes for trains passing through Bhopal.

According to media reports, more trains could be given halts at Nishatpura in the future, including the Indore–Bareilly Express, Dr Ambedkar Nagar–Prayagraj Junction Express, Indore–Howrah Express, Ahmedabad–Patna Express, Bhopal–Bina MEMU, and Indore–Rajendra Nagar Express.

Nishatpura has also been upgraded to the NSG-3 category, with passenger facilities, including the public announcement system, being enhanced ahead of the start of regular services.
