Madhya Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Madhya Pradesh’s water conservation initiatives after discussing the nationwide Catch the Rain campaign during his Mann Ki Baat address.
After highlighting conservation efforts across the country, PM Modi said around 1,500 ponds had been built in Sidhi district, while Amrit Sarovars in Narsinghpur had been restored and developed. He said the state’s work reflected the importance of community participation in conserving rainwater.
After urging citizens to take responsibility for protecting ponds, wells and stepwells in their localities, the Prime Minister said every drop of water saved today would become a valuable resource for future generations.
He said the Catch the Rain campaign, launched on 4 July, aims to promote rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, restoration of traditional water bodies and tree plantation. He added that panchayats, community organisations and residents across the country were actively supporting the initiative.
After the Prime Minister’s address, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav listened to the Mann Ki Baat programme with local residents at Kanchana Ghat in Orchha, Niwari district. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, Social Justice, Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwah, public representatives and local residents were also present.
