Union Home Minister Amit Shah outlines dairy plans in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday addressed a Gaupalak Sammelan in Bhopal, highlighting plans to expand Madhya Pradesh’s dairy and cooperative sectors.

Shah said the Madhya Pradesh government has set a target of increasing daily milk procurement from 12 lakh kg to 52 lakh kg. He said the central government would support the state in achieving the target.

According to media reports, India’s milk production has increased from about 14.6 crore tonnes in 2014-15 to around 24.8 crore tonnes currently. Per capita milk availability has also risen from about 307 grams to 485 grams a day.

Shah also referred to White Revolution 2.0, under which 75,000 new cooperative dairies are planned across the country and 46,000 existing dairies are expected to be strengthened. Madhya Pradesh is expected to benefit from the initiative, according to the reports.

The reports said cooperative dairies could help livestock rearers receive better prices for milk while benefiting from processing and value-added products.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has given in-principle approval for 50 acres of land for cattle and buffalo breed-improvement programmes.

During the programme, the foundation stone was laid for a 3 lakh litres-per-day milk processing plant in Ujjain, estimated to cost Rs 255 crore. Other dairy projects in Bhopal and Shivpuri were also inaugurated, according to media reports.
