BHOPAL: A meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the Bhopal Collectorate turned tense on Friday after elected representatives raised concerns over delayed civic works, poor road conditions and repeated road digging across the city.
During the meeting, several public representatives questioned why potholes had not been repaired despite the arrival of the monsoon. They also raised concerns about incomplete road patchwork and delays in civic projects.
BJP MLA Bhagwan Das Sabnani said roads were being dug up repeatedly for different utility works, causing inconvenience to residents. Representatives also discussed the progress of projects being carried out under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanskriti Jain acknowledged the issues raised and responded to questions during the meeting.
The meeting later turned contentious during discussions on Bhopal’s master plan. A heated exchange took place between Janpad Panchayat President Pramod Rajput and Congress MLAs Arif Masood and Atif Aqueel.
Following the argument, Masood and Aqueel walked out of the meeting.
Masood alleged that legislators were insulted during the proceedings and said he would raise the matter with the Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, claiming it amounted to a breach of legislators’ privileges.
He also said the Congress MLAs attended the meeting out of respect for the Prime Minister and did not expect such behaviour.
The district administration had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication.
