Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday sealed the premises of Unacademy and Durrani Coaching in MP Nagar Zone-2 after inspectors found serious fire safety violations during a joint inspection.
The action was carried out by the civic body’s fire brigade and revenue teams as part of an ongoing drive to ensure that coaching centres, hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions comply with fire safety norms.
Officials said both coaching institutes had been issued notices on June 25 asking them to remove fire safety deficiencies. However, a fresh inspection found that the required measures had not been put in place.
At the Unacademy centre in building number R-25, inspectors found no emergency staircase, closed manual call points (MCPs), a fire hydrant system that was not on auto mode or connected to a generator, poor ventilation on all floors and expired fire extinguishers. The building was vacated before being sealed.
At Durrani Coaching, located in building R-10-D, officials found expired fire extinguishers, a disconnected fire hydrant water supply, no emergency staircase and inadequate ventilation on the upper floors. The hydrant system was also found to be used for purposes other than fire safety.
The civic body said both premises were sealed after the owners failed to address the shortcomings despite receiving prior notices.
The inspection was carried out on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain as part of a city-wide campaign to strengthen fire safety arrangements in public institutions.
