Bhopal: The Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) organised a mentor-mentee programme on Guru Purnima, where students honoured their mentors for their guidance and support.
Postgraduate students pursuing MD, MS, DM and MCh courses presented coconuts to their faculty mentors as a mark of respect. Nursing and paramedical students also honoured their teacher-mentors. The mentors presented pens to the students as a symbol of encouragement.
BMHRC has 46 postgraduate students, 108 nursing students and 71 paramedical students. More than 100 doctors serve as mentors for students across the institute.
Acting Director Dr Manisha Shrivastava said teachers play a key role in helping students gain knowledge and build their future. She said a mentor guides students without expecting anything in return and inspires them to achieve their goals.
She urged students to respect their mentors and continue the guru-shishya tradition. Dr Shrivastava said students should remain open to learning from everyone because every person has something valuable to teach. She added that students often find the best mentors around them and should seek their guidance whenever needed.
She also encouraged mentors and mentees to build relationships based on trust, mutual respect and open communication. She said students should discuss their academic and personal challenges with their mentors, while mentors should guide and motivate them to succeed.
Dean (Academics) Dr Surabhi Sahay, heads of departments, faculty mentors and students from postgraduate, nursing and paramedical courses attended the programme.
