BHOPAL: A fire broke out at a clothing shop in Bhopal’s Chowk Market on Friday afternoon, causing major damage to garments and other goods. No injuries were reported.
According to initial information, the fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
Shopkeepers noticed smoke coming from the store and immediately tried to control the fire. The fire brigade was alerted, but fire engines were delayed due to narrow lanes and traffic restrictions in the area.
According to local traders, road barricades and one-way traffic forced the fire engine to take a longer route. Narrow streets and parked two-wheelers further slowed its movement. Witnesses said the fire engine reached the spot about 40 to 50 minutes after the alert.
Before firefighters arrived, nearby traders and local residents managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring shops. However, the shop suffered losses worth several lakh rupees, according to traders.
Eyewitnesses said the incident could have turned into a major fire because many shops are located close together in the crowded market. They said timely efforts by traders helped prevent the flames from spreading.
The exact extent of the damage has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are expected to assess the losses and investigate the cause of the fire.
