A scooter rider was swept away by a strong current while attempting to cross a flooded road in Uttarakhand’s Vikasnagar following heavy monsoon rain, according to media reports.
The incident took place in the Katapathar area after continuous rainfall caused the Naro Khala seasonal stream to overflow, sending fast-moving water across the road.
According to local reports, the rider attempted to cross the waterlogged stretch despite the strong current. Moments later, the force of the water destabilised the scooter, sweeping both the rider and the vehicle into the overflowing stream.
A short video of the incident, reportedly recorded by a bystander, has been widely shared on social media. The footage appears to show the rider being carried away by the current as onlookers shouted in alarm.
According to media reports, the rider was rescued shortly afterwards and did not suffer serious injuries.
The incident comes as several parts of Uttarakhand continue to experience heavy monsoon rainfall, resulting in overflowing streams, swollen rivers and localised flooding.
Authorities have repeatedly advised residents and visitors to avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges and seasonal streams during heavy rain, warning that even seemingly shallow water can conceal strong currents capable of sweeping away people and vehicles.
The latest incident has renewed calls for caution during the monsoon season. Officials have urged the public to follow safety advisories and avoid taking unnecessary risks in areas affected by flooding or fast-flowing water.
