55 Stitches After Stray Dog Attack

UJJAIN: A three-year-old girl suffered serious facial injuries after a stray dog attacked her in Delwadi village of Mahidpur tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, officials said.

The child was playing outside her home on Saturday when the dog suddenly attacked, biting and mauling her face. Family members rescued her and rushed her to a district hospital for treatment.

Doctors said she sustained deep wounds around her eye, nose, cheek, lips and ear, and lost a significant amount of blood. After receiving emergency care and an anti-rabies vaccination, she was referred to MY Hospital in Indore for specialised treatment.

Medical specialists performed emergency surgery and placed about 55 stitches to repair the injuries and control bleeding. Doctors said the wound near her eye was particularly severe and could affect her vision. Further treatment is continuing in Indore.

Health experts advise anyone bitten or scratched by a dog to wash the wound thoroughly with clean water, seek immediate medical attention and receive the recommended anti-rabies treatment. Severe wounds should be covered with a clean bandage before reaching a hospital.
